What to Do if a Switch or Electrical Plug Gets Flooded?

Many people may have experienced an unexpected flood and may not know how to properly handle the electrical system in such situations. The first thing you should do is switch off the circuit breaker (cut-out) to cut the power and prevent electrical hazards from potential leakage.
 
 
Here’s a basic guide on what to do once the water has receded:

1.After the water has receded, immediately switch off the power by turning off the circuit breaker to prevent any potential electrical leakage. Wait for 2-3 days to allow the area to dry before using electrical appliances.
2.If you’re unsure whether there is an electrical leak, use a screwdriver with a voltage tester to check the areas where the water may have reached the plug and see if there’s any electrical leakage.
3.If it’s necessary to press a switch, use a cloth or any insulating material to press it instead of using your finger, to prevent electrical shorts. However, switches that meet safety standards and have insulating materials will reduce the risk of danger.
4.If the exterior condition still looks unsafe, call a qualified electrician to inspect the system before using the plug or switch.
