Did You Know? The Height of Electrical Outlets Should Be Considered
Has anyone ever faced the problem of installing electrical outlets at an unsuitable height? Many people might think that the height of the installation of outlets and switches isn’t that important, but in reality, it’s a simple detail we can address for both aesthetics and practical use. Many people have encountered awkward installations, such as outlets being too high, too low, or even installed after measuring the furniture, only to find that the furniture blocks the outlet!
These small details can lead homeowners to spend extra money on repairs.
Today, we’re here to suggest the standard height for installing outlets and switches.
There are several height options for installing electrical outlets depending on the situation:
- For electrical appliances such as fans, lamps, or floor-standing appliances: The outlet should be installed approximately 30 cm above the floor to prevent water damage and be at a convenient height for plugging in.
- For switches and outlets near doors: Keep the outlet around 10 cm from the doorframe for aesthetic balance. Additionally, the outlet should be placed around 100-130 cm from the floor for easy access when standing.
- For outlets next to desks or counters: The outlet should be placed 5-10 cm above the surface of the furniture.
- For outlets near the bed: The outlet should be around 10 cm from the bed and positioned between 50-75 cm from the floor, depending on the bed’s height.
With these considerations in mind, using switches and electrical outlets in your home will become much more convenient!
